NCSES Statistical Support
Problem
NCSES faces growing information needs from its key audiences.
The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) is the leading source of high-quality quantitative data on science and engineering education, employment, and research and development in the U.S. With demand for NCSES statistics and information increasing, additional resources and infrastructure are needed to advance NSF and broader national goals in support of the science and engineering (S&E) enterprise and the public good.
Solution
NORC will develop statistical processes, conduct analysis, and consult on statistical matters.
Through the Statistical Support task order contract, NCSES will benefit from NORC’s thorough understanding of NCSES data, information products, statistical standards, and disclosure avoidance requirements as well as our expertise across pertinent domains, including survey statistics, data quality, data linkage, statistical analysis, and statistical disclosure control (SDC). NORC will assist the Statistics, Methods, and Innovation (SMI) area and the broader NCSES organization in meeting the growing information needs of its key audiences and stakeholders.
Result
NORC’s efforts will help ensure the long-term quality and usability of NCSES information products.
NORC is collaborating with NCSES to develop an approach to data quality assessment that meets NCSES’s unique data quality needs and aligns with the Federal Statistical Committee’s Data (FCSM) Quality Framework. Going forward NORC will also work with NCSES to develop processes for ensuring quality of NCSES information products, confirming statistical accuracy, methodological suitability, and appropriate disclosure limitation procedures.
